What is a domain name?
Your domain is a unique “address” that allows users to find you on the internet. The domain name can then also be used to create a personalised email address. For example: www.domains-made-easy.co.nz is the domain name users would search for and info@domains-made-easy.co.nz – would be the email address.
Who is the owner of my domain name?
Domain names are not “owned” but are licensed for exclusive use for a period of time. The individual or organisation that has rights to use the domain name is listed in the domain name registration records as the Registrant Contact. It is important to specify the correct legal Registrant details when you are registering a domain name. We recommend if you are registering a domain name for your company that you register the domain in the company name and not your personal name.
Can I cancel my domain name?
New Zealand domains can be cancelled at no cost for a period of 5 days after registration. International domains once registered cannot be cancelled for a refund.
Can I change my contact details on my domain?
You can modify all details except the Registrant Name. If you wish to change the Registrant Name, you must complete a Registrant Transfer (change of “ownership”) process.
